WARREN WOLF WITH ALEX BROWN AND STRINGS
DIZZY'S CLUB @ JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER / AUGUST 13-16

Vibraphonist Warren Wolf and pianist Alex Brown recreate Chick Corea's Lyric Suite for Sextet (ECM), the 1983 composition originally recorded with Gary Burton. The suite represents Chick's most sustained exploration of classical chamber music within a jazz framework – six movements blending through-composed passages with improvisation. Warren, whose technical command and harmonic sophistication make him ideal for this demanding repertoire, assumes the role Gary inhabited on the original ECM recording. Alex, a pianist equally fluent in jazz and classical idioms, brings interpretive depth to Chick's intricate piano writing. The string quartet – violinists Lavinia Pavlish and Kobi Malkin, violist Tia Allen and cellist Eleanor Norton – provides the lush, European-inflected textures essential to the work's character. This performance honors Chick's legacy while demonstrating how his compositional vision continues to inspire musicians working across genre boundaries. - JZZ
