The Soul Rebels are a New Orleans brass band that has spent two decades working across hip-hop, funk, and jazz without settling comfortably into any single genre. Their instrumentation—full brass section, drums, no chordal instrument—gives the arrangements a density that reads differently from most bands playing the Blue Note. They have collaborated with Talib Kweli, Pretty Lights, and Questlove, which reflects the breadth of where they've taken the tradition. Live, the band operates with the tight coordination of a studio ensemble and the energy of a second-line parade. Three nights over the July Fourth holiday weekend.
