Alto saxophonist Sarah Hanahan, a rising star on the New York scene, brings her quartet to this intimate Connecticut venue. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Sarah has quickly established herself through fierce technical command and mature emotional expression. Her sound draws from Cannonball Adderley's soulfulness and Kenny Garrett's contemporary intensity. Sarah has performed with the Christian McBride Big Band and appeared on Wynton Marsalis's "The Democracy! Suite." Her compositions blend hard-bop vocabulary with contemporary sensibilities, avoiding both nostalgic recreation and empty experimentation. The quartet format showcases her improvisational storytelling – each solo constructed with architectural logic and emotional arc. The Side Door's intimate setting allows close communion between artist and audience, ideal for Sarah's communicative approach to jazz.
