QUANTUM BLUES QUARTET

Quantum Blues Quartet brings together four musicians whose careers rarely travel the same orbit: guitarist Tisziji Muñoz, keyboardist Paul Shaffer, bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and drummer Will Calhoun. Their 2025 album, Quantum Blues (Ropeadope), emerged from an uncharted studio session played without charts or advance plans. Tisziji’s searching, high-velocity guitar meets Paul’s deep command of blues, soul, and popular song; Jamaaladeen supplies elastic electric-bass lines, while Will brings the power and polyrhythmic imagination associated with Living Colour and his jazz projects. The result is less a conventional blues band than an avant-funk laboratory, grounded in groove but open to abrupt turns and collective risk. The Philadelphia engagement should emphasize the quartet’s spontaneous chemistry. CR
