The Jamaican jazz legend continues to entertain and astound at 82. He’ll follow an August 11-15 Birdland NYC residency with an appearance at Keystone Korner on August 16. Monty’s bouncy new single “Skamento“ is out, while the full album, A Jamarican in Paris (PeeWee!), will be released on October 2. Monty’s shows are an endearing and unpredictable joyride through the reggae, ska and mento of his homeland (including a regular dose of Bob Marley), calypso, straight-ahead jazz, American Songbook, pop, blues, bop and more. The GRAMMY Award-nominated pianist was first brought to the United States by Frank Sinatra and club owner Jilly Rizzo. He quickly became a New York fixture, as a beloved accompanist and bandleader.
