The confirmed band: Makaya on drums, Marquis Hill on trumpet (Tue–Sat), Jeff Parker on guitar (Tue–Sat), Joel Ross on vibraphone (Wed–Sun), Junius Paul on bass, Emmanuel Michael on guitar (Sun), Immanuel Wilkins on saxophone (Sun). Makaya's work sits between jazz, hip-hop production, and improvised music—he records live performances and reshapes them in the studio, then reconstitutes the results back into a live band context. Jeff, Joel, and Junius are each significant voices in their own right. Marquis brings a trumpet sound connected to Chicago's jazz tradition. The Sunday configuration with Immanuel and Emmanuel represents a different instrumentation from the rest of the week. Six nights at the Vanguard to close July.
