JOEL ROSS: GOOD VIBES

SMOKE JAZZ CLUB / APRIL 22-25

Vibraphonist Joel Ross brings his Good Vibes ensemble to Smoke Jazz Club April 22–25—alto saxophonist Devin Daniels, pianist Tyler Bullock, bassist Kanoa Mendenhall, and drummer Jeremy Dutton—performing music from his Blue Note release Gospel Music alongside new work. “We’re looking forward to playing some of the music from the record,” Ross says, “but once we release the record, we’re already getting ready for the next one,” working through “new stuff mixed in with old stuff… figuring out how it all fits together.” The group blends long-standing ties with newer connections—“Jeremy and Kanoa have been the mainstays since we were all in high school”—while Daniels and Bullock are more recent additions. “It’s built on deep, lasting friendships… being on the same page of what we’re trying to present,” Joel says, “more of a selfless sort of working together than it is to focus on self.” —ME
