JAMES CARTER

BLUE NOTE JAZZ CLUB - NYC / APRIL 21-22

James Carter presents Trane: A Centennial Supreme!, a program reflecting on the legacy of John Coltrane through a band built for range, texture, and conversation. Carter, long admired for his command of multiple saxophones and his ability to move between straight-ahead, groove-based, and more exploratory settings, approaches Coltrane not as repertory but as living material. He is joined by Steve Turre on trombone and shells, Gerard Gibbs on piano, Hilliard Greene on bass, and Alex White on drums. Early in his career, Carter was aligned with Lester Bowie, a connection that points to his place within a broader creative music lineage. This set allows room for ensemble interplay, shifting dynamics, and open improvisation, while drawing from both the spiritual force and structural reach that made Coltrane’s music continue to challenge musicians and listeners alike across generations and idioms in performance. JZZ
