Ingrid Jensen is a Canadian-born trumpeter and flugelhornist who has earned recognition as one of the most accomplished brass players in contemporary jazz. A faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music, Ingrid has built a career spanning more than three decades, recording as a leader and collaborating with artists including Maria Schneider, Terri Lyne Carrington and the DIVA Jazz Orchestra. Her playing combines technical precision with lyrical expressiveness, moving fluidly between hard bop, post-bop and more exploratory territory. For this performance, she leads a quartet featuring guitarist Marvin Sewell, whose textured, blues-inflected playing has graced recordings by Cassandra Wilson and Abbey Lincoln; organist Gary Versace, a versatile musician equally at home on piano, accordion, and Hammond B3, and drummer Jon Wikan, a longtime collaborator who has appeared on several of Ingrid's albums. The organ-quartet format offers a soulful, grooving context for Ingrid's adventurous trumpet work.
