The confirmed lineup: Gary Bartz on alto saxophone, Randy Brecker on trumpet, Buster Williams on bass, Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Gerry Gibbs on drums. Gary and Randy are both NEA Jazz Masters—putting two NEA Jazz Masters on the same Birdland bandstand for five nights is a programming event worth noting. Buster has been one of the premier bassists in jazz since the late 1960s. Cyrus's piano is rooted in gospel and bop. Gerry assembled the Dream Band concept specifically to document this generation of players in a live setting. No themed program announced—straight-ahead repertoire is the format.
