CLIFTON ANDERSON
IRIDIUM / MAY 14

Trombonist and composer Clifton Anderson is one of the instrument's most distinguished voices, shaped by decades of close collaboration with one of jazz's supreme improvisers. Clifton joined the Sonny Rollins Group in 1983 and has remained a featured soloist with Sonny ever since, performing in the world's major concert halls and absorbing the lessons of a true master at close range. As a leader, Clifton released his debut album Landmarks on Milestone Records in 1997 to critical acclaim, and has continued to lead his own groups in the U.S. and internationally. His trombone sound combines power and elegance, always in service of the music's deeper narrative arc. The Iridium, one of New York's most storied small rooms, is an ideal venue for an artist of Clifton's refinement – close enough to hear every subtlety of his phrasing and tone. RN
