CARLOS HENRIQUEZ - SALSA MEETS JAZZ: MONK CON CLAVE
DIZZY'S CLUB / MAY 4-5

Bassist and bandleader Carlos Henriquez has been a cornerstone of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra since 1998, and his new big band album Monk con Clave (2026) represents a bold creative statement in his own right. The project reimagines the music of Thelonious Monk through the rhythmic framework of the clave, bringing Monk's unmistakably angular, syncopated melodies into vibrant conversation with Afro-Caribbean groove. The result is not an overlay but a revelation: Monk's music and the clave, it turns out, were always in deep rhythmic sympathy. Carlos leads a full big band through this material at Dizzy's Club, letting the rhythms open up and the band lean hard into the swing. It's lively, rhythmically rich, and full of the kind of musical dialogue that makes Dizzy's buzz. Monk con Clave arrived April 2026 – these performances celebrate its release. HH
