BRIAN BLADE AND THE FELLOWSHIP BAND

BLUE NOTE JAZZ CLUB / JUNE 11-14

Brian Blade formed the Fellowship Band in the late 1990s and has maintained its personnel and sound with unusual consistency – a measure of how fully realized the music was from the beginning. The band draws from jazz, gospel, folk and Americana, a convergence rooted in Brian's upbringing in Shreveport, Louisiana, where his father served as a minister. As a sideman, Brian has recorded with Wayne Shorter, Joni Mitchell, Daniel Lanois, Herbie Hancock and Joshua Redman, among others. The Fellowship Band's albums on Blue Note Records – Perceptual and Season of Changes among them – stand as some of the more distinctive ensemble work of the past 25 years.
