BRANDEE YOUNGER

BLUE NOTE JAZZ CLUB / JUNE 15

Brandee Younger has done as much as anyone in recent years to establish the harp as a fully active instrument in contemporary jazz – not a guest appearance, not a novelty, but a front-line voice with its own history and demands. She cites Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane as primary influences, and both lineages are audible in her work: rhythmically driven, harmonically rich and grounded in Black American musical tradition. Brandee has collaborated with Common, John Legend, Ravi Coltrane, and Pharoah Sanders. Her 2022 Concord Jazz album Brand New Life brought her wider visibility across jazz, R&B, and classical audiences. June 15 falls within Black Music Month.
