Our monthly was launched in 1982 by jazz writer Gene Kalbacher. His goal was to provide music enthusiasts with a handy printed guide to the best in New York jazz clubs, concerts and festivals - with informed commentary on up-and-comers as well as established talent. That very first issue of Hot House was the result.

Today, well into our third decade, Hot House is going strong. Thanks to a loyal readership, including many people living far from the city and even outside the U.S. plus the enthusiastic support of club owners, concert promoters and record companies eager to build the audience for this music, we're set to broaden our scope and extend our reach still further.

Lynn Kalbacher Taterka has labored for 20 years to build on Gene's vision until 2002 when Dave Dittmann took over as Publisher with Gwen Calvier serving as General Manager.

Today, President Gwen Calvier and her team (editor Paul Blair with a loyal crew of contributing writers and art director Karen Pica) are committed to deliver an even higher quality magazine: expanded coverage, increased circulation, clockwise delivery the last weekend of each month, updated website with direct connection to artists' and clubs' websites. Since jazz never stands still, neither will we!
